Dear NUSTAR WEEK 2012 Participants,

 

NUSTAR WEEK 2012 is almost upon us and we are looking forward to welcoming you at the Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre (VECC) campus next week.

 

This message contains some additional information that may be useful to you concerning arrival, the VECC campus site and week’s program.

 

ARRIVAL:

 

The conference will take place at the Ajay Divatiya (A.D.) Lecture Hall and Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP) Auditorium in the VECC-SINP campus which is located at the Sector-I of Block AF in Saltlake. VECC is also known to the common people as Bhabha Centre.

 

Upon arrival, you may go directly to the Hotels or Guest House. Accommodation list is posted in our conference website:

If have any query regarding this, please contact us immediately.

 

We have arranged transfer from Airport to Hyatt, Sonnet and Indismart Hotels only to those participants who are arriving on 7th October onwards. After your arrival, come out of the airport gate and please look for the “NUSTAR WEEK VECC” board. Someone will be there to pick you up.

 

Those who are accommodated at the VECC and IISER Guest houses are requested to arrange their own transport for the transfer from Rail stations/Airport. VECC Silver Jubilee Guest House is located in the VECC campus. IISER Guest house is located near the City Centre Shopping Mall in Saltlake, it’s about 5 minutes drive from VECC campus. You may check our conference website for the travel info to reach VECC campus from the Airport or Railway stations.

 

REGISTRATION:

 

On Monday October 8th, a registration desk will be set up at the VIP lounge of VECC Old Guest House. Registration starts at 2:30 pm until 5:00 pm. We will accept registration fees (Rs 6000/-) in Indian Rupees (cash only). No credit or debit cards will be accepted, so please change your currency after your arrival to the airport, if required.

 

We will arrange transport for all the participants staying in our recommended hotels (Hyatt Regency, Sonnet, Indismart and IISER Guest House) in all the conference days. A vehicle will reach on at 2:00 pm to the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 2:10 pm at Sonnet and 2:15 pm in the IISER Guest House on 8th to take you to the VECC campus for the registration. We will give you a separate list for travel schedule (between hotels/guest houses and VECC) for other days after your registration.

 

 

Important: VECC being a secured zone, we had to take special permission for you to carry your cell phone and laptops inside the VECC campus. In the security desk at the main entrance gate of VECC, you have to declare your laptops and cell phones while you enter our campus. Please don’t carry your camera inside the campus. Photography inside VECC is strictly prohibited, so please don’t use your cell phone camera. For the Non-Indian participants, entry to VECC campus must be through the Main Entrance Gate, every time you enter the campus, you have to report to the security desk at the main entrance gate. Only those, who are staying inside VECC Guest house can avail the Guest House Entrance gate.

 

INTERNET ACCESS:

 

There is free internet access (Wi-fi) at the SINP Auditorium, A.D. Lecture Hall and VECC Guest House. At all the places mentioned above there will be a wireless connection.

For internet access at the SINP Auditorium, you have to register your computer after your arrival. However, for internet access at the A.D. Lecture Hall and VECC Guest House you must register device beforehand. Those who have sent the MAC addresses of their devices, please collect the login id and password at the registration desk.

 

CONFERENCE PHOTOGRAPH:

Conference photograph will be taken on 11th October, just before lunch, in front of the SINP Auditorium.

 

BANQUET DINNER:

 

A banquet dinner will be hosted at 7:30 pm on Wednesday 10th October, in the Grand Hotel Ball Room located at the centre of the city, called Esplanade. It’s usually about an hour drive from VECC. As the festive session in Kolkata is going to start in couple weeks from now, the evening traffic may be slow.

The day’s scientific program ends at 5:05 pm and immediately after that we will arrange your transfer to hotels/guest houses. Please be ready by 6:00 pm, when a bus will reach your hotel/guest house to take you to the Grand Hotel for the conference dinner.

 

Apart from the conference dinner, there will be two more dinners: on Tuesday at VECC VIP lounge hosted by the Director, VECC; and on Thursday at Hotel Sonnet hosted by the Director, Bose Institute. For these two evenings, we will directly go to the dinner after day’s meeting is over.

 

CULTURAL PROGRAM:

Mamata Shankar Dance Troupe will perform Indian Classical dance in the evening on Tuesday, 9th October.

 

TALKS:

A PC laptop and LCD projector will be available. Please load your talk on to the laptop prior to your session.

 

VECC FACILITY VISIT:

After the lunch break on Tuesday, 9th October we plan to give a tour to the VECC experimental facilities to those who are interested. Please let us know during your registration if you are interested.

 

WEATHER:

Kolkata is hot and humid now, average maximum temperature is 34 deg C (93 deg F) and humidity is more than 80%.
